Shire
(heavy feather) - Shires on average is the largest and tallest of all the draught breeds. One of Britain's draught breeds. The Shire was used as a war horse 'til it was banned, and they began to pull brewery wagons, and for work on the farm. In the mid 1900's the breed had dwindled, so crossbreeding with the Clydesdale took place, and left the Shire's conformation changed forever. Predominately seen in black, Bay/brown, and grey with chestnut and cream dilutes being rare and only accepted by the American Shire registry. Horses may display minimal to moderate sabino markings though excessive body white and roaning is undesirable in mares and not allowed in stallions. Tails may be dock or natural.
